A Very Grand Opening

I had such a great time at the recent events at Buttercream & Olive Oil, 8021 West 130th Street, right next to the CVS at the corner of Sprague. Beginning on September 18, Jennifer Thornton and her mom, Donna, along with the help of friends and family held three days of events at their new shop. It was perfect weather for the Grand Opening ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz, and a great opportunity to showcase the bakery and coffee service, the teaching space and kitchen. The freshly hand-painted sign that adorns the front of the building can be seen from the street, and it puts a graceful finishing touch on a beautifully remodeled space that brings new life, students and visitors to Ward 1.

The highlight for me was the Gypsy Jazz Party on Friday night, September 19, with the Forest City Django Club. As the sun went down and the night cooled off, this marvelous band played an acoustic set that fit the teaching space perfectly, and highlighted the natural acoustic quality of the shop. It was a perfect way to end a busy week, and I look forward to seeing the band again soon.
