Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 when President Grover Cleveland signed a law passed by Congress designating the first Monday in September a holiday for workers.
If you have the day off today, take a moment and recognize the history of labor in our state and our country. If you have 40-hour work weeks, 8-hour work days, paid vacation time and holidays like today, retirement benefits, safe working conditions, these all are a result of the labor movement in the United States.
Happy Labor Day!
